Giordano’s passionate tragedy casts tenor Piotr Beczała as the virtuous poet who falls prey to the intrigues and violence of the French Revolution.
Following their acclaimed collaboration in Giordano’s Fedora during the 2022–2023 Live in HD season, Beczała reunites with soprano Sonya Yoncheva as Chénier’s aristocratic lover, Maddalena di Coigny. Baritone Igor Golovatenko portrays Carlo Gérard, the agent of the Terror who seals their fate.
Met Principal Guest Conductor Daniele Rustioni leads the performance in Nicolas Joël’s captivating production, which will be broadcast to theaters worldwide from the Met in New York.
