Ein deutsches Requiem – Johannes Brahms
A requiem for the living, that is how Ein deutsches Requiem by Johannes Brahms is often described. He wrote it in the 1860s following deaths in his immediate circle. It is a comforting piece, written to soften the suffering of the bereaved. That explains why Brahms would have preferred to call his composition Ein menschliches Requiem.
